The Ode to Writing

Since the beginning of time, Man has felt the need to record the happening of life in some way. It started with depictions on the cave walls, where people recorded the hunt of the day. They often recorded the victorious celebration of the hunt.

Following this method was the introduction of the clay tablets and the hieroglyphs. The meaning of words came about through the images and “drawings” they created. The images used in a particular sequence would represent a message.

It is Man’s desire to write down and record what they see, hear or experience. This is how the eventual book, as we know it, evolved from many years of such desires. This would include the popularity of Typography, Graphic Design and the Layout of the words of people in the world.

A number of companies in the world offer you the opportunity to publish the story or stories that you write. Many offer you their services in order for them to make money from your writing. The money is not of immense importance if you know that your story can help others or bring healing to yourself.

It is necessary for you to spend money especially if you are going to have your book or books printed. If you have your book typeset and edited by a publishing company, it will cost you additional charges. You might find a publisher that offers you these services free of charge and you only pay for the printing. The company would also not own the copyright, but would rather receive some royalties from the sales.

As a matter of interest, printed books have not lost their appeal with the kindles and Pads that are around. Many people would still enjoy a good book that still smells of “book.”However, with the digital era, printing has become increasingly cheaper. You are able to print a number of books from between two hundred and five hundred books. With the larger printers – called lithographic printing – you are obliged to print larger quantities.
